- Age: Maximum of 40 years at the time of the application deadline.
- Commitment: Must provide written certification that they will return to their home government for at least six months after the fellowship.

Fellows are not interns; they are treated as professional staff members within divisions such as Transparency, Mitigation, or Adaptation.
- Intergovernmental Support: Assisting in the preparation of documentation for the Nairobi Work Programme (NWP) and supporting negotiations at COP.
- Technical Analysis: Drafting policy papers and reports on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinating with global networks of experts and organizing high-level technical workshops.
- Innovative Projects: Proactively suggesting new knowledge products or digital tools for climate monitoring.
